I think it's about time we did some updating...

I first made this blog for a school assignment, and after realizing its power in keeping in touch with people, I decided to keep it. However, after that decision, I haven't used it since. A little bit anticlimactic, no? Well anyway, here are some updates:

1. Josh and I are still in school. I'll be done next April and Josh will be done...um...at a future date...
2. We live in Utah and are enjoying life in the bubble right now, bur we can't wait to move on to the next part of our lives.
3. No babies yet...We're going to have one next year after I finish school. YAYAYYA!!! I've moved on from baby hungry to baby ravenous.
4. We've been married for two years now and we love love love it. Nothing beats getting to hang out with your best friend all the time...Well, when we're not at school or work.

Today was a little anticlimactic. We learned about GPS stuff and it was all fine. I don't have any questions, but I wish the GPS unit had found some more satellites.

In the next two weeks the hardest thing I have to do is complete a calculus final without killing myself. here's hoping!

Today was tedious but awesome. I understood everything, and I am extremely thankful that we have an instruction sheet. I don't have any questions.

My husband and I will be spending Thanksgiving with his Mission President in Sandy. We don't have any family close, and we can't afford to go home, so Sandy it is.

Today was a LOT of info, but I think I understood it well. I'm still having some trouble georeferencing, but I'm getting better at it.

well, this is technically from yesterday...
Today we learned how to place different kinds of maps on top of each other, and it was pretty cool. I learned how to take out colors, which was cool too. Although my mylar did not want to correlate to my other maps with the control point tool, and I'm a little confused by that.

A good book I've read lately is the Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.

Today was so cool! I am really excited to learn about using ArcGis, and this was pretty awesome. I was glad to learn that we could download maps from the internet. The program is not really intuitive, but I don't have any questions right now.

Our favorite place to eat out is Cafe Rio. Although I just learned yesterday that one of their salads has enough calories to feed you for three days. hm.

Today we learned about the slice tool and the opacity tool, and they were both pretty cool. I didn't know about the different kinds of opacities, so that was cool to learn about. I don't have any questions about the lesson.

I've in most of the states that make up the West. I grew up in Oregon, moved to Idaho, then Montana and then here. I only have Washington, Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado to go. Wait, that's more than I thought. Oh well, I've got a lot of time.

Today was cool and interesting. I don't have any questions, and all the material made sense. I thought the pathfinder tool was pretty cool and cuts out a lot of time.

Here's a picture that I made for my 230 class. I used the clone tool, the magnetic selection tool, the lasso tool, the gradient tool, the eraser, and the move tool. I also had to flatten the image and do a couple other things to it. So, Voila!

Today was fantastic! I learned how to make a strat column which was useful and exciting. I don't have any questions on how to do it, so that's good.

My plans for tonight are to get together with my mineralogy club and discuss homework, then go home and study for my mineralogy test. And maybe give out candy. That's all. I wish it was a little more exciting, but such is life.

Wow! I learned how to get into the symbol library today, and it was awesome! I have access to so many cool, creative things now! I can go crazy!I understood everything today, so it was pretty awesome.

My favorite Halloween costume was in 3rd grade when I was Cleopatra. I wore eyeliner and this cool gold skirt. But no one knew who Cleopatra was, so I felt a little obscure. Another obscure Halloween was when I was Benny Goodman. I wore my brother's suit and carried a clarinet around. At least all the old people knew who I was.

Illustrating our lives

Today was our introduction to Illustrator, and it was really straightforward. I don't have any questions. I've used the program before, so I'll be ok.

I want to know when Christ is coming again. Not so I can sin and then repent the day before, but just because I want to know. I'm excited about it.

Ok, so today we went over how to merge photos and replace skies in photoshop. It was understandable, and I don't have any questions. I thought it was cool that I could create my own sky with a gradient tool.

Here's my mini-project! This is a scanned photo that my dad sent me of me as a wee lassie. I used levels, crop, dodge, burn, clone and a gaussian blur to create a vignette. That's all.
I am a huge football fan. I don't really like any other sports, but I love football. I've never been to game here, but I follow them religiously.

This was not boring, as Nicole had warned us. I didn't know that the burn and dodge tools came in shapes, so I had lots of fun with that. Here's my product of having fun. Hm, the bottom was supposed to be orange, but it's now blue. oh well. No questions for today.

My favorite fall activity is raking up a whole bunch of leaves and then running and jumping in them. It's like snow, only less cold, and doesn't hurt when someone throws them at you. I like the smell and the color, especially orange ones. I like raking up random people's yards too.

I knew most of what was taught today, so I don't have any questions. I thought the inner glow was pretty cool though. I made a wicked-cool magazine cover with Navajo Sandstone on it. The title had a drop-shadow and an inner glow. awsoooommmmeee...

On the left is my mini-project that I worked on. It originally was an underexposed photo, and so I worked with the levels first. I also used these tools: Shadow/Highlight, crop, color balance, magnetic lasso, flatten layers and brightness/contrast.

Ok, for a best date...It was the one when my husband proposed to me. He made me breakfast, and we just went walking around downtown Missoula, window shopping. We ate lunch in his truck and then he proposed. *sigh* It was low key and amazing. We were on our way to dinner and I told an old lady walking next to us that I had just gotten engaged, and she seemed pretty thrilled. My husband also makes balloon animals, and while we were at dinner he made some poodles for the family sitting next to us, and they ended up paying for our dinner. It was cheap and classy. ;)

Well, today was REALLY informative, and I re-learned the basics. I've used Photoshop lots and lots before, so I don't have any questions. Oh, and here's my picture that I decided to merge. I used the crop tool, the saturation tool, select tool, move tool, and the magnetic lasso. The complimentary color scheme I used was blue and yellow.

As far as my worst injury goes, I have a lot, but I think breaking my arm in half was pretty bad. I was riding my bike on 9th E, and I flew off of it, gave my left arm two elbows, and broke out my front teeth (for the second time). I now have two titanium plates and 14 metal screws in my arm, and I got to spend 4 days in the hospital. It's something I really have no desire to do again. Ever. I still can't stand to ride my bike downhill, it gives me flashbacks. That's all.

Well, today we reviewed for the test, and everything seems clear to me. I don't have any questions.

Moving on ... I had a hamster named Rosie. She was pink-ish and extremely cute. She lived for a really long time and then died in my mom's hands. I was 11 at the time and I was CONVINCED that I would see her in heaven. Now I know differently, but I still hope that I'll see her at the pearly gates.

Well, today was informative, but I really didn't learn anything new. I have no questions, because Nicole did a really good job explaining it. I really like Excel's table options, they're very aesthetically pleasing.

ADVENTURE-Definitely spending three years backpacking through Europe. Either that or living in the Amazon jungle for a couple of years, but without the bugs. That happens, right?

Well, the largest difference that I found was 8592.8 m. I just crunched some numbers for my mentorship project and it would have made it so so so much easier if I had known about the format painter. That was awesome.

Today was really informative! I learned a TON about editing today and I am really excited about using all my new knowledge to edit my paper. My A-HA moment was when I realized I could write comments straight on to the paper in a text box. I don't have any new questions, everything was pretty easy to understand.

Crazy relative - I have an uncle in the state penitentiary in draper. for murder and arson. he's not wacky, he's crazy.

Well, I didn't really have an A-HA moment today. It's stuff that's pretty easy to figure out, and the program is easy to understand. Although I do have one question - How do I change the table width in my text portion? I've tried changing it in the edit box for the table for one of my columns, and it never worked.

When I was a wee laddie, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I wanted to save all the little animals. Then my dog died and I realized that I couldn't handle cute little animals dying and I decided to be something else.

Well, today I thought we did an excellent exercise by writing our own abstracts dealing with Grimm's Brother's fairy tales. Although the stories were often gruesome and had a terrible moral, I learned to look for certain things while reading. Which was good. Oh, and never read the story The Strange Musician or the 7 Ravens to your children as a bedtime story. It will give them nightmares.

As far as a super power goes, I'd want the ability to fly. nuff said.

Well, today we went over some referencing tools and talked about the GSA format and all that jazz. I think I'll be able to handle that because I wrote a paper with GSA format last semester. At least I hope so.

If I were a tool I'd be one of those wood lathe things. It takes relatively ugly pieces of wood and turns them into nice looking vases and bowls and such.

Well, today we learned loads about making a proposal to a science foundation or whoever to ask for funding to answer a geological question. I thought this was extremely helpful because we all will have to do this some day because we're geologists, and geologists answer questions. One thing I really learned was that these proposals don't have to be long and totally uninteresting (which is the impression I had before). They can be short and to the point and still be considered. I appreciated that because I don't always have a lot to write, but what I do write is usually pretty to the point. Ok, enough of that.

Dream vacation - IRELAND! I've always wanted to go there and walk along the lochs and have a drink in a local pub. (ROOT BEER of course). I love the green and I could stand being there for quite a while. Plus, I heard you can walk around a just pick garnets up off the ground...

Gosh! I learned loads today! Bill Keach's lecture really opened my eyes to a whole world of things I need to do to be able to prepare to move on in the "real world". I've always been good at flying by the seat of my pants, but I realize now that I've been relying on luck and that's TERRIBLE. I learned that preparation is key, and that all you have to do is your homework, and you'll survive.
As far as differentiating myself, I think that I have a lot of enthusiasm for a job if I really want to do it. I think that shows through a lot. I love learning, and I think people can see that when I talk to them about prospective jobs.

I was a little confused about how to download a template from Word 2007. I figured out how to from Internet Explorer, and voila! I have a template for a CV. However, I have to idea what CV means.

Prank - Well, it wasn't necessarily me, but one Halloween my brother hid in this old toilet seat thing that was set in a box and he would jump out and scare all the small children. I'm pretty sure one little girl peed her pants when he jumped out.

The real A-HA moment I had today was the TAB FUNCTION! I have never been so relieved that I don't have to count periods anymore. All I have to do is click a couple of places on the ruler and then select dots, and TA-DA. I'm done! I love that.

ok, Scar story - One time I was helping my brother and dad clear some land on a property south of where we lived. They were planning on building a home to sell there so we had to remove some of the trees. We were all using chainsaws and doing some really small scale logging. I was limbing a tree and my saw got stuck in a branch that had pinched it. As I yanked it out, the branched unpinched, and the saw came out lot faster that I was expecting, and it went right through my left thigh. I got to go to the emergency room and get sewed up, and 65 stitches later, I am a whole woman ... with a 6 inch scar on my leg. Ah well, it'll be great to show the grandkids some day...
